Lil Wayne is an American singer from New Orleans, Louisiana. He began his music career at the age of 12, when he was signed by Cash Money Records.
Wayne rose to fame with his debut album, Tha Block is Hot (1999), which peaked at number 3 on the US Billboard 200 chart. His subsequent albums have all been commercial successes.
Lil Wayne is one of the best-selling artists of all time, having sold more than 100 million records worldwide.

Lil Wayne began his music career in 1993, at the age of 12, when he was signed by rapper and producer Birdman to Cash Money Records. He made his recording debut that year on the song “Get Off the Corner” from B.G.’s album Chopper City in the Ghetto (1993).
In 1997, Wayne joined the group Hot Boys along with rappers Juvenile, B.G., and Turk. The group released their debut album Get It How U Live! that year.
The album peaked at number 29 on the US Billboard 200 chart and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The group’s second album Guerrilla Warfare (1999) debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 and was certified double platinum by the RIAA. It featured the singles “Bling Bling” and “We On Fire”. Lil Wayne’s solo career began in 1999 with his debut album Tha Block is Hot.
The album peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the RIAA. It featured the singles “Tha Block Is Hot”, “We On Fire”, and “Bling Bling”.
In 2000, Lil Wayne released his second studio album Lights Out. The album peaked at number 6 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the RIAA.

Lil Wayne’s commercial success continued with his sixth studio album Tha Carter III (2008), which sold more than one million copies in its first week of release and debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200. The album won Best Rap Album at the 2009 Grammy Awards.
Lil Wayne’s 2010 rock-influenced seventh studio album Rebirth was a commercial failure despite its lead single “Prom Queen” peaking at number 19 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In 2011, Lil Wayne returned to rap with his ninth studio album Tha Carter IV, which debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 and sold 964,000 copies in its first week of release in America. It featured three top 10 singles: “6 Foot 7 Foot”, “How to Love”, and “She Will”.
His tenth studio album I Am Not a Human Being II (2013) also debuted atop the Billboard 200Chart while selling 350,000 copies in its first week of release in America; it would go on to be certified gold by the RIAA.
In 2016, Lil Wayne released his eleventh studio album Dedication 6: Reloaded followed by Dedication 7: FreezeMe later that year—both mixtapes were met with positive reviews from critics but underperformed commercially.
In September 2018, Lil Wayne announced Funeral , which would mark a return to his previous style.
After several delays due to disagreements between Lil Wayne & Birdman about payment for work completed as well asTMZ reporting that he had retired from music permanently,.
Funeral was finally released on January 31st 2020 & received mixed reviews from fans & critics alike but still managed to debut atop of US Billboard Top Rap Albums & US Billboard 200.
